Choices as Instruments of Domination
Morning Reflection
Some believe freedom lies in the abundance of options, yet they fail to see how options themselves can become a cage. You enter a store without walls; every shelf gleams, every product calls your name. At first you are dazzled—then the dazzle tightens into suffocation. Which path do you take? Which decision is “right”?
Evening Reflection
In the quiet of evening, I understand that abundance can be a subtle tool of control. When you stand before a flood of possibilities, nothing is forced upon you—yet everything exhausts you. The space widens, but your chest tightens with uncertainty.
The more alternatives you face, the heavier the burden of choosing becomes. And with that burden comes anxiety. When anxiety rises, a person becomes easier to guide. The confused soul does not seek freedom as much as relief from confusion. Here lies the secret of domination: no decision is imposed on you; instead, you are gently led to wish that someone else would decide.
This is the genius of soft violence. It raises no voice, threatens no punishment, yet overwhelms you until you surrender your authority voluntarily. You are drowned in a sea of “freedoms” until you lose the strength to swim, clinging to the first hand extended toward you—even if that hand belongs to the very force that stirred the waves.
Wisdom does not lie in rejecting options, but in cultivating an inner standard that precedes them. To know what you want before desires are displayed before you. For one who lacks a compass may see every direction as an invitation—yet remain forever lost in vastness without decision.
