Abu Dhabi: When Work Becomes a Life Experience

Morning Reflection

Some chapters in a person’s life begin as a professional transition, yet they soon evolve into a deeper human experience than one could have imagined.
When I moved to Abu Dhabi to work for Gulf Traveler, which later became the foundation for Etihad Airways, I did not realize that I was not simply starting a new job—I was entering a completely new chapter of my life.

There, between the cockpit and the runways, and within a city full of life and ambition, I began to discover that some places offer more than work… they offer a new meaning to the journey itself.

Evening Reflection

In the quiet of the evening, when I reflect on the three years I spent in Abu Dhabi, I realize that they were not merely a professional phase, but a rich human experience that left a deep mark on me. Aviation has always required the highest levels of discipline and focus. The cockpit is a world that leaves no room for error, and the responsibility of a pilot goes beyond a profession—it becomes a trust carried in the sky. With every flight I made, I came to understand that aviation does not merely connect cities; it connects a person to a wider world of experiences and meaning.

Yet the most beautiful moment of every journey was always the return to Abu Dhabi. It was a city where authenticity and modernity coexist in remarkable harmony. Abu Dhabi was never just a workplace; it became a second home that gave me a sense of comfort and belonging. Its people welcomed strangers as if they were members of their own family, with genuine smiles and a natural generosity that reflected the depth of Arab culture.

In its traditional gatherings, markets, and quiet streets, I felt the spirit of authentic Arab hospitality. At the same time, I saw a city confidently looking toward the future, where historic forts stand proudly beside modern towers—as if the past and the present were quietly conversing with one another.

Dubai, on the other hand, was a different world of energy and innovation. Every visit revealed another dimension of the Emirati dream. It is a city that never sleeps, where ideas race to become real achievements. From soaring skyscrapers to vast shopping centers and global events, Dubai stood as a clear symbol of ambition without limits.

But behind the impressive skyline, I saw something even deeper—the spirit of a people who, within only a few decades, succeeded in building a remarkable model of development. They preserved their traditions and roots while opening their doors confidently to the world.

Looking back today, I realize that those years were not simply a period of working in another country. They were a school of life. They taught me that real progress does not require abandoning one’s roots, and that ambition can walk side by side with humility.

I eventually left the UAE after three years, but what remained with me was far more than memories of travel or work. What stayed were the human lessons, the friendships, and the deep sense of gratitude for an experience that taught me something essential:

some places do not pass through our lives as cities we merely visit…

they become part of our story— a luminous station in the long journey of life.
